Why benchmark IT?

IT Benchmarking

"...if you don't know where you are,
you don't know where you're going..."

Benchmarking adds value

Benchmarking is a systematic comparison of key numbers for companies' performances – by looking at experiences and results from others the individual company can reach a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t, and possibly apply this to its own organisation.

You can say that benchmarking moves the discussion from "what is wrong?" to "how can we improve?" Furthermore benchmarking as a continuous activity in the company identifies the result of efforts made as an iterative process – resulting in continuous improvement. In short: Good decisions start with good information and benchmarking creates frames, structure and methodology for making essential judgments within an organisation.

Benchmarking of IT systems

When it comes to IT systems, benchmarking is also one of the most efficient tools for initiating and maintaining continuous improvements: Here it is also neccessary to have access to relevant information to be able to precisely identify problems and develop sustainable solutions. This applies to e.g. the operations of a SAP system, but benchmarking is also relevant when for example considering the purchase of a whole new system.
